Scurt istoric

The Chair was founded in October 1945 by S. Blinklin, university professor, Scientist  Emeritus. He was the head of the discipline until 1951. In the following years, the Chair of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology was fronted by university professors: S. Recimenski, H. Galikeev, O. Komarik, V. Dercaci, A.Visitiu.

From 1969 to 1989, V. Nikitin, Scientist Emeritus, Doctor Habilitated, university professor, was the head of the department. Professor V. Nikitin’s prodigious activity focused on scientific investigations concerning the exploration and improvement of the rapid methods of infectious diseases diagnosis. This was the topic of PhD and Doctor Habilitated theses in medical sciences defended by the following academic staff members: Şt. Plugaru (1973), Gh. Postolache (1973), V. Rudic (1974), T. Gheorghiţa (1981, 1991), V. Nahaba (1982), A. Cotici (1988), Iu. Roşcin (1986, 1992), N. Moraru (1992).

From 1989 to 2004, the department has been headed by P. Galeţchi, university professor, Scientist Emeritus, doctor of medicine.

The scientific investigations carried out by the department team between 1994 -1997 resulted in the defense of Doctor Habilitated dissertation by L. Sicinschi (1997) and PhD thesis of V. Vorojbit (1997).

By Order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology FPM was founded in April 1992. T. Gheorghiţa, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, university professor was the founder and leader of the department until 2004. The newly founded department continues its scientific investigations aiming to develop and improve the methods of diagnosis of infectious diseases. The results of the investigations materialized in the development of methodical recommendations and in the application in laboratory bacteriological practice of new methods for rapid identification of microorganisms, resulting in the completion of doctoral theses by: V. Bortă (1998), R. Anghel (2002), N. Florea (2003), G. Balan (2008).

By order of the rector, both Chairs of Microbiology were merged under the name of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology in September 2004. From 2004 to 2008 the chair was headed by the university professor, Scientist Emeritus, doctor of medicine Şt. Plugaru.

From 2008 until now, the chair has been led by V. Rudic, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, university professor, academician, Scientist Emeritus.

Under the leadership of academician Rudic, the team continues its scientific research and in 2017 C. Lozan-Tîrșu defends her doctoral thesis in medicine.

In 2020, the Chair of Microbiology and Immunology was named the Discipline of Microbiology and Immunology within the Department of Preventive Medicine.
